AI Influencers Could Replace Human Influencers

What began as a curious investigation into artificial intelligence’s potential role in celebrity culture swiftly turned into feelings of uneasiness when I gradually realised that they were already here. At least in a rudimentary way. They still exist within the uncanny valley, but that valley is beginning to close, and I’m fairly certain we won’t be able to tell whether the superstars we see on screens are real or not in the not too distant future. In this video, I look at two AI Influencers: ‘Anna Indiana,’ an AI Singer Songwriter, created anonymously, and ‘Aitana Lopez,’ a Digital Creator with over 213K followers and an Onlyfans account that is supposedly growing and bringing in over $10,000 per month. Is it a ruse or a deception? It doesn’t appear to be. Here you have an AI Model that says as much, and yet lonely guys from all over the world come to this imaginary company and contribute their hard earned money for NSFW AI generated content. And I can’t stop thinking about how bizarre that is. If anything, it implies that many men are content to project their idealised versions of women onto a fabrication that does not exist in physical reality. They prefer fiction to reality. The fact that manufactured perfectionism is what we desire rather than anything tangible makes me feel a little sad; at least when it comes to the subject of human relationships. Knowing how Stable Diffusion works, I decided to test some of the newer tools available to see how easy it was to create my own ‘Digital Creator’ and well… Turns out you don’t need much skill at all to manufacture a whole person…     Furthermore, it appears that a growing number of technologies are on the horizon that will allow us to convert still photographs of illustrated characters or even people into animated videos. This technology will have many valuable uses in the creative space, but it won’t all be rainbows and sunshine. More malevolent people will soon have a new set of tools at their disposal to force others to submit to their will. The cat is already out of the bag, and it’s ridiculous to expect it to want to return now that it’s experienced the great outdoors. The most we can do is stay up to date with this technology so that we’re aware of its capabilities and do not fall victim to future scams or deceptions.

GodotGPT | A GPT That Codes Videogames

First things first, click here if you want to see GodotGPT in action. GodotGPT, is a specialised AI assistant focused on providing comprehensive support and guidance for game development using the Godot engine and GDScript. I’ve trained it on community-driven knowledge within the Godot Documentation on Github. It’s an amazing resource for everything related to the Godot engine. I’m hoping that it can assist developers, both novices and experts, in navigating the complexities of game development with Godot. Whether it’s understanding the basics of the engine, scripting with GDScript, or diving into advanced techniques, this little GPT will give tailored advice and solutions. It’s capabilities extend from answering specific queries about Godot version 4.1 and later, to providing code examples in GDScript, and even troubleshooting common issues encountered during development. Why did I put GodotGPT together, well I’ve got a video about that below:   I’ve been involved in the gaming industry ins several different roles over my career, but I also wanted to get into the actual development side. It always seemed like a worthy challenge and one that would push my creative and technical skills further than anything else. I’ve taken a dozen Unity courses and earlier this year made a quiz app, ‘The Creative Archetypes’ and released it on the app store as well as itch.io However, I have lost faith in Unity after their attempt to exploit their creators for additional funds. Now, my focus is on learning Godot and GDScript. GodotGPT will hopefully be making my life a little easier as I begin this journey, if you have an GPT Plus subscription, my little chatbot can help you too.

2D Character Animator | Udemy Course

Back in 2017, I was presented with a challenge that would unknowingly alter the course of my creative journey: Inktober. A challenge where artists create a new piece of art every day throughout October, Inktober presented me with the opportunity to revisit a skill I hadn’t touched since high school – drawing. Despite being surrounded by professionals, I persevered, completing all 31 prompts. Little did I know, this was just the beginning. Fast forward to 2019, I decided to take Inktober to a whole new level – not just creating illustrations, but bringing them to life through animation in After Effects. At the time, I was freelancing, grappling with scarce opportunities, and navigating through a toxic relationship that devalued my creative pursuits. I often heard the discouraging words, “It’s time to get a real job.” But creativity has a resilient way of flourishing even in the toughest soils. I made a choice – to leave the negativity behind and fully embrace my creative calling. This choice paved the way for a thriving career, a new supportive partner, and a life rich in artistic expression. This year, I have developed a small YouTube channel with over 8,000 subscribers and 700,000 views, a self-published book on creativity and AI, and an app designed to help creatives discover their true potential. All of these accomplishments led me to my latest endeavor: a comprehensive Udemy course on 2D character animation.   This course is the culmination of knowledge accumulated since leaving college in 2012, polished and perfected over the last three months of dedicated production. “2D Character Animator | Photoshop, After Effects, Midjourney” is designed to take you from novice to skilled animator, empowering you to bring your 2D characters to life with professionalism and flair. You’ll learn the ins and outs of Photoshop, After Effects, and AI tools like Midjourney, tackling everything from character isolation to complex animations, lighting effects, and color grading. The skills acquired here are versatile and sought-after, opening doors to endless creative possibilities and will be a great first step towards a career in animation. The course is now live on Udemy, and while it will feature discounts periodically, I also possess coupon powers that might just get you access for free! Keep an eye out and seize the opportunity when it arises. If you decide to embark on this animation adventure with me, I would love to hear your thoughts. Your reviews are invaluable, helping newcomers gauge the quality and relevance of the course. Testing Gen-2 and Pikalabs with a Starfield Parody Trailer

I was watching a lecture on creativity recently and how it’s not an optimal survival strategy in the modern world. That’s because creatives will spit out idea after idea, and it’s rare that any of them are actually good and worth pursuing. This year I’ve made a free app that has managed 15 downloads, and I published a book that has sold 77 copies (the majority for free under Kindle Unlimited). Both are designed to help creatives navigate the world with a little more wisdom. Especially when we’re living through rough times with AI technology forcing us to raise our own standards of work. I think the app and the book were worthwhile pursuits, but the truth is, no one really cares, and that’s just the reality of these things. They took a long time to make as well, albeit a lot quicker due to tools like ChatGPT, Claude2, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion. So I’ve tried to reign in the scope of the projects I do, at least in the short term, so I can create content making use of the newest creative tools on the market. These just so happen to be AI tools, which are still massively controversial. Sadly, it doesn’t matter if you like them or not; if you don’t learn how to use them, you’re at risk of losing work to people who do know how to use them. This means if you are creative, the optimal strategy is to be a bit selfish and learn this new technology; all the big studios are already using it, so why put yourself at a disadvantage unless you really do want to be a starving artist, which I do not recommend; it’s awful. Anyway, besides all of that, there’s been progress with AI video generation tools in the last couple of weeks. RunwayML’s Gen-2 is still massively janky, but if you’re persistent, you can get some cool visuals out of it. But the tool I’m most impressed by is Pikalabs, and I’ll tell you why after you’ve watched the video.   Now, on the surface, this video was one of those stupid ideas a normal person would ignore. But I had a creative spark and the means to make this idea real. It’s not too dissimilar to the setup for the Wes Anderson Pokemon parody I made a couple of months ago, which was heavily inspired by the team over at Curious Refuge, but this time around, instead of playing around with D-ID AI, I wanted to test out Gen-2 and Pikalabs. Pikalabs allows you to drop images in with a text prompt, and it will render a 2-second video clip at 8fps. So you can’t do much with that, but it’s still less awkward-looking in comparison to Gen-2. Gen-2 needs a lot of rolls. Most of the results I’ve gotten back feel too much like Disco Diffusion; it’s too hallucinogenic for what I’d like to use it for. I suspect it’ll get better, but for now, the subtle movements from Pikalabs are much more what I’m after. Besides that, I’m learning that DaVinci Resolve is amazing. Everyone who does motion work with AI knows about dirt removal and deflicker now. Due to Corridor Crew and Enigmatic E. The latter is a very talented Warp Diffusion artist and is worth checking out. He actually helped Corridor with their latest Stable Diffusion project, Anime Rock Paper Scissors 2. In terms of my own video project, it just feels like sci-fi is booming within the culture. David Grusch is making the news regarding his statements in Congress about a secret UAP retrieval programme. I’ve spent a little too much time on the UFO/ alien subreddit reading all the crazy theories, and although I’m highly sceptical, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t slightly intrigued by what’s going on. Beings from another dimension, the possibility that it’s actually us coming with a warning—that’s an interesting take and one that I wanted to build into this little parody piece I’ve done. Starfield seemed like a relevant game to piggyback on, as the recent gameplay trailer that this mimics was all about finding life within the universe. Wouldn’t it be insane if it was already here and we’d all just been kept in the dark? Aliens, UAPs, AI, simulations—it’s a nerds-wet dream really, isn’t it? And with the Game of Thrones showrunners making the new Three-Body Problem TV series for the start of next year… We’re entering the new sci-fi age, and I’m all for it… Unless aliens are actually real demonic entities trying to cause humanity harm, then it’s a solid nope from me!

Rob Like A Robot: How To Be Creative When A.I Does It Better

After a year of deep research into artificial intelligence and its impacts on human creativity, I’m proud to announce the release of my book “Rob Like a Robot: How to Be Creative When AI Does It Better.” This 244-page guide represents the culmination of everything I’ve learned about generative AI and how we can use it to augment our creative potential.   The genesis of this book was in early 2023, when tools like DALL-E, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion first captured the public imagination. As a multimedia artist and content creator myself, I was fascinated but also apprehensive about what these new technologies meant for human creativity. Throughout the year, I dove headfirst into testing these AI systems, reading extensively, building online resources via YouTube, and writing up my thoughts and findings into this book. My goal was to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state of AI and use that knowledge to help fellow creators navigate this technology. What I’ve come to realise is that AI is not a threat to human creativity, but rather an opportunity. When used thoughtfully, it can free us from repetitive tasks and allow us to focus on the parts of the creative process that require emotional depth, imagination, and a human perspective. The book aims to show readers how to view AI as a collaborative tool that enhances their unique creative voice rather than replacing it. In Rob Like a Robot, I guide the reader through the exhilarating world of generative AI using a mix of storytelling, concrete examples, and philosophical insights. We explore leading tools like Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, and ChatGPT and see how they can augment photography, visual art, writing, music, game development, and more. But I also devote significant attention to the ethical implications of AI, looking at issues like copyright, deepfakes, and dehumanisation. The aim is not just to marvel at the technology but to responsibly integrate it into our creative lives. Rob Like a Robot also draws on lessons from creative luminaries throughout history to provide timeless advice on nurturing imagination. I share my own trials and tribulations in shaping a fulfilling creative career. And I speculate about the future of human creativity as AI becomes more sophisticated. Ultimately, the book is about discovering your unique creative voice and using technology to express it to its fullest potential. For anyone looking to understand this AI-powered creative revolution we’re living through, Rob Like a Robot is an indispensable guide. It’s a roadmap to help artists, writers, designers, and creators of all kinds collaborate with AI in their quest for self-expression and self-actualization. I hope it will inspire people to think deeply about the relationship between technology and creativity and to pursue innovation with ethics and humanity in mind. If AI is our future, let us shape it with care to uplift the human spirit. Want to know more about it you can read more here.

Creative Archetypes | Helping Guide Creatives Into the Future

This has been a passion project that I’ve had under wraps for the last 4 months. After studying C# and a dozen tutorials regarding the Unity Game Engine. I felt it was time to take a crack at my own project.   Now, I have a tendency to over do the scope on personal projects, so I decided to reign it in with something U.I focused, and a quiz app seemed like the simplest thing to go after as a beginner. But I was determined not to make something without value. I don’t know if you’ve already heard but, A.I is not only going to destroy the world but wreck the lives of creative workers, at least that’s the narrative that’s pulling in views at the moment. I’m trying to take a more optimistic approach with A.I, treating it as a tool to help us create bigger and better things faster. This app is a prime example of that. I have heavily used ChatGPT when creating the Creative Archetypes. I won’t shy away from that. I’ve bounced ideas off it, tweaked copy so it reads nicer and most importantly as a search engine to help me code the thing. I know the very basics of C#, without ChatGPT I would no doubt still be googling and searching forums for answers on how to piece together the main menu. But to get back to the point of the app. I wanted to combine the functionality of a Likert scale quiz with the premise of creative personas. Having studied psychology and being generally interested in the differences and potential of the human mind, I wanted to tie that in with the field of creativity. Thus, in my own search for meaning and a desire to help others as well as myself, the Creative Archetypes was born. I’ll likely revisit this over time if it gains any momentum, for the time being it’s helped me understand Unity better. I do however sincerely hope anyone that uses it will learn something new about themselves, which will help them on their own creative journey. You can check the app out on Itch.io or the Google Play Store.

Diving into the Wes Anderson A.I Meme Phenomenon with a Twist

Over the past week, the internet has been flooded with videos parodying Wes Anderson’s unique filmmaking style, transposed onto pre-existing franchises. High-profile parodies include a Star Wars homage by Curious Refuge and a Harry Potter spin by PanoramaChannel. The prior of these creations not only went viral due the influence of its LA-based marketer/ creator, but also because Anderson’s quirky aesthetics harmonise well with the constraints of current A.I-driven art tools.    Despite their popularity, A.I-driven creations like these remain a hotbed for debate. Fear and excitement run rampant in the creative sector, sparking contentious discussions about the future of human labour in a world increasingly dominated by A.I. I recently saw this tension firsthand in LA, where writers were picketing outside Universal Studios, expressing fears that cutting-edge technology like ChatGPT could eventually replace them. While I empathise with these concerns, my experience in the creative sector has taught me one immutable truth: adaptation is key. Our industry moves at a relentless pace, and anyone who fails to keep up risks being left behind. Thus, regardless of personal preferences, we need to acquaint ourselves with emerging tools if we want to stay relevant in the creative world. With that in mind, I decided to dive into the Wes Anderson A.I meme craze and craft my own version. So with the help of various A.I tools I created a Pokemon parody called ‘The Grand Isle of Snorlax’ Here’s my process:     Crafting a Script with ChatGPT The first phase involved creating a script using ChatGPT. Over several conversations, I fed the A.I with themes and ideas, iteratively refining the output, and handpicking a list of actors who might be humorously suited for the characters. Image Generation with Midjourney Next, I employed Midjourney to generate images. I hadn’t used Midjourney before, but I was pleasantly surprised by the striking results. While the images still required a bit of Photoshop and cleaning up for a professional setting, they were quite sufficient for creating an engaging internet meme. High-Resolution Refinement with Stable Diffusion and Photoshop As the default Midjourney output was 720p, I decided to upscale the images to 4K using Stable Diffusion. This enhancement not only sharpened the images but also helped facilitate the use of Photoshop’s ‘Select and Mask’ feature. With this tool, I could separate the characters from the backgrounds more efficiently than the pen tool, significantly reducing the time spent on isolating components that would later be animated in After Effects. Animating Stills with D-ID Wanting to bring life to my stills without investing too much time, I turned to D-ID. With D-ID, you input an image and a silent 5-second mp3 file, and the tool creates a stylized motion effect. Although you don’t have much control over the output, it serves its purpose for quick meme-style videos. D-ID again doesn’t output at the highest resolution but this was a quick fix in DaVinci Resolve. A.I Voiceover Magic with Elevenlabs Finally, I used Elevenlabs for voice overs. It was my first experience with their service, and I was taken back by the improvements in A.I voiceovers. Although the service may pose a threat to traditional voice actors, the ability to make edits and perform multiple takes makes it a powerful tool. When paired with Adobe’s voice enhancer tool, it’s easy to forget that you’re not listening to a human voice.  Enriching the Experience with Assets & Music from Envato Market & Artlist Many Wes Anderson A.I memes tend to overlook a key component of dynamic storytelling: an evolving musical landscape. A common pitfall in these memes is to ride out a single track from beginning to end. However, seasoned editors know that well-curated sound design, skillfully mixed SFX, and varied music greatly enhance the video’s energy and keep the audience engrossed in the narrative. Thus, for my own meme, I decided to source a more diverse range of stock assets and music from Envato Market and Artlist. Capturing Wes Anderson’s Colour Palette Another element that seems to elude many of the A.I memes is an authentic colour grade that emulates Wes Anderson’s iconic visual style. I found the perfect solution for this in Premiere Pro’s Lumetri Color panel, with its Color Wheel and Match tool. This feature lets you borrow the colour palette from a still frame and apply it to your image. To truly capture the essence of Wes Anderson, I used a scene from the Grand Budapest Hotel as my colour reference and cranked up the Faded FIlm setting. Reflecting on A.I’s Disruptive Potential There’s no denying that A.I will drastically reshape every industry it permeates. It raises profound questions about our very human identity in a future where robots can outperform us in nearly every domain. I spent close to 18 hours on this project from start to finish, I can see a future where much better pieces of media are created in a push of a button. In the entertainment sector, we’re about to witness a seismic shift similar to the advent of social media. The ways in which we consume and interact with digital entertainment are on the brink of a transformative evolution, for people working in the creative sector this is terrifying. We’re all worried about our livelihoods but for the average consumer, there’s about to be a content golden age where they’ll finally be able to create at the same level as the pros. Navigating Licensing in the Age of A.I The intricate entanglement of A.I with human input necessitates a thoughtful approach to licensing and copyright regulations. Some argue for stricter oversight, others propose more explicit copyright guidelines, considering that much of A.I’s current foundation is built upon prior human creativity. Presently, most A.I memes skirt around copyright infringement due to being parody and the clear markers of artificiality, aligning them with ‘fair use’ regulations. However, as the technology evolves, the distinctions might not remain as overt, muddying the waters around intellectual property rights. Unfortunately, concrete solutions to this impending

How I Used AI To Make A Theoretical Video Game Expansion

As someone who has worked in the video game industry, I’ve always been fascinated by the endless possibilities of game expansions. Recently, after my brother saw a tweet by one of the Slay the Spire co-creators talking about some pasta based icons he’d made, we decided to put our heads together to create a demo of it using AI tools. With my knowledge of stable diffusion and animation and his of ChatGPT, we set out to bring our ideas to life. We decided to create a full pasta-themed expansion. Our DLC content included new characters, relics, cards, quests, and enemies, all centered around a delicious pasta theme. To achieve our vision, we used a couple of base assets from the game and ran them through Stable Diffusion and Automatic1111. While the initial results were lacking on their own, we used Photoshop and After Effects to finesse the assets and add animation, bringing them to life. The workflow we used was impressive, and it has the potential to speed up game development significantly. In the future, artists will be able to ask AI to swap out certain elements and create variations of their work in seconds. There are ethical concerns though, a lot of artists are currently fearful that they will be replaced by technology which is causing a lot of negativity around these tools. As a content creator experimenting with these new tools I do realise I walk along this grey area at the moment, which is why I’m constantly giving credit to the original creators and showing them in a positive light. I was quiet disheartened when it came to releasing the video and upon going to credit the lead artist on Slay the Spire Bruce Brenneise, I’d seen that he’d taken an anti A.I stance on his Artstation. If you like Slay the Spire and want to support human artists, you can subscribe to Bruce’s patreon for as little as £1 per month on his Patreon. I suspect as time moves forward there will be much less stigma around A.I tools as they become the norm. Overall, using AI tools to create a theoretical video game expansion was an exciting and eye-opening experience. As AI technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more innovative uses of this technology in the gaming industry.
